| Corrine thought life couldn't get any worse, than some lucky numbers changed her life forever..that and some coffee! |
"In 5 minutes we will have the drawing for the state's biggest lotto jackpot ever 76.5 million dollars!" The TV personality with the bad toupee shouted into the microphone as his overrated talk show went to commercial. At that moment Corrine could care less. After a long, very trying day, she kicked her heels off and promptly passed out on the overstuffed sofa. Her nap was dreamless and if she had her way she wouldn't wake up until it was time for work tomorrow. The way things were going in here life lately, no such luck on that either. Startled by the loud TV, she groaned, waking up out of her stupor. She brushed a stray curl out of her face as she padded to the kitchen and fixed herself some tea. Glancing at herself in the hallway mirror, she could she where the patterns from the couch marred the delicate white skin of her cheek, leaving harsh red lines across it. "Girl, you look terrible. I think you need a vacation!" She told her reflection. With her cup of tea she returned to the sofa in time to hear Mr. Bad Toupee announce it was time for the lotto drawing. "Oh damn!" Corrine cursed as she realized she had a ticket. Her Aunt Darlene bless her soul, sent her a birthday card with a lotto ticket, a check for twenty dollars and all the love Hallmark could write about every year. The ticket was buried in the bottom of the wasteland she called a purse. "What am I thinking?" She muttered to herself. "Me win the lotto...when pigs fly!" So instead of leaving her sanctuary, she wrote down the numbers in neat script on the pad she left on the coffee table. "11....25....79....7...3.....54" The blonde finished with her numbers, flashed a great big smile and before her 5 minutes of fame were up, let people know what to do if they were a winner. Corrine finished her tea and collapsed back down on the sofa content to fall asleep, making a mental note to clean out her purse and check and see if she won. Morning came way too quickly, and after a night on the sofa, Corrine felt like she had been on the rack all night. Stretching she ran the shower and started the coffee maker. A quick check of the time made her realize that she was way too late for coffee. Hopping into the steaming spray, she showered in record time, twisting her mass of auburn curls into a tight coil at the nape of her neck. After spritzing on some perfume, she threw on her suit and rushed out the door. After hailing the taxi from hell, and realizing she wasn't going to be late, Corinne decided coffee was in order and stopped into her regular haunt. The Coffee Bean had a great atmosphere. She loved the smells and sounds and she would never admit it to herself, the gorgeous man who worked behind the counter. "Hi Dennis...I will take the usual." She tried not too stare into his eyes. He had the most gorgeous brown eyes, like melted chocolate. He was always so polite and nice. She figured he had to be, since he was trying to sell coffee. "Morning Corrine..you smell fantastic." He leaned over to catch a whiff of the subtle scent of her perfume. It was intoxicating. He was glad she stopped in. There were times when he couldn't stop thinking about her. But what would an executive want with a coffee pourer? "Thanks Dennis..I better get going..you have a great day okay?" Corrine spun on her heel and headed out the door, turning her head to offer him a smile as she exited. The talk in the office was all about the lotto. From the way the buzz was going, Corrine determined that they had not found a winner in the lottery. "Oh well.." she mused. Then she thought about her ticket and picked up the newspaper searching for the winning numbers. She wrote them down on her blotter.
